"Midwifery: A difference in care; measureable benefits; safe, pure births."

Feel Confident and Secure

Allen Birthing Center is fortunate to have three experienced and highly educated certified nurse-midwives (CNMs) on staff. This team of providers is unique in that they all share a common experience background, common educational preparation, and common birth philosophy. Thus you are reassured that only people who support your choices and desires will be with you during this important time of your life.

Unique to this group of midwives is the fact that they all possess advanced midwifery education as well as many years of experience. In addition to the basic midwifery skills related to pregnancy, birth, and postpartum, these practitioners have successfully completed graduate science courses in anatomy and physiology, reproductive endocrinology, embryology, growth and development, pharmacology, and nutrition. Their preparation has been rounded out with graduate level education in lactation (breastfeeding), childbirth education, and labor support. As an added bonus for families seeking their services, each CNM has obtained EVEN MORE training in her specific areas of interest. So be sure to check out each one’s brief biographical sketch!

Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM)

A certified nurse-midwife (CNM) is an individual educated in the two disciplines of nursing and midwifery, who possesses evidence of certification according to the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM).

Nurse-midwifery practice as conducted by CNMs is the independent management of women's health care, focusing on common primary care issues, family planning and gynecological needs of women, pregnancy, childbirth, the postpartum period, and the care of the newborn. The CNM practices within a health care system that provides for consultation, collaborative management, or referral as indicated by the health status of the client. CNMs practice in accordance with the Standards of the Practice of Midwifery, as defined by the ACNM.
